My Summer Goals For 2016
June 20, 2016
Happy Solstice, friend! Today we welcome summer with the longest day of 2016, but this year is extra special because we also have a Strawberry Moon accompanying, making this solstice a "summer of love". The last time we saw this happen was in June, 1967 and another one isn't likely to come around again until 2062. How cool, right? A once-in-a-generation experience happening tonight! This magical day got me thinking of what goals I would have for myself in this new season and I wanted to share them with you.
Spend as much time outside as possible
Although we are in the middle of the craziest heat wave Arizona has seen is a very long time, I want to soak up as much sun (and vitamin D) as I can! This means all the hiking, swimming, nighttime bike riding, and picnicking that AZ's weather will allow.
Get crafty and complete home improvements
I have been pinning so many great DIYs that I really need to dive in and try out, but I also want to come up with some of my own to share with you! To complete this goal, I will also need to seek out and feed my inspiration, which means more yardsaling and thrifting. (This is always okay in my book. Haha)
Practice yoga everyday
I love yoga and what it does for my anxiety, but I have gotten out of the habit of making it an everyday practice. I'm hoping that by implementing it back into my daily life, I will not only see improvement in my mental health, I will also see results physically and spiritually. This summer, I will wake up early and make it part of my morning routine.
Show more self-love
I will say that I have become much more comfortable in my own skin and happier with who I am, but I know that I am nowhere close to where I need to be. Self-love is something that will never stop being a goal, because it is important to care for yourself, always, no matter what.
Take my camera with me
I love photography so much, but I haven't used my camera in a really long time. There's nothing wrong with iPhone snaps and the quality isn't half bad most of the time, but it will never be as good as my DSLR. Plus, I could definitely afford to sharpen up on my manual skills.
Learn to make my own kombucha
A girl from work is going to give me a starter kit! She has been making her own for quite some time and I've been wanting to pick up this trade for a while. Hopefully it will be a success and I can share my experience with you!
Grow my blog and continue to stay dedicated
This is a brand new space and I don't want to set my expectations for viewership/following too high, but I do want you to know that I am very passionate about Shivers + Crickets and this goal is super important to me. "If it's both terrifying and amazing, then you should definitely pursue it!"
I hope you have a lovely Solstice and welcome the summer season with open arms! What are some of your goals for the season?

Hi from the Grow Your Blog FB group! I love summer goals and find it really helpful to set just a few that way you’re not feeling overwhelmed or disappointed if you don’t complete them all. But, I love yours! Spending time outdoors and just taking in the sunshine is so important and I, too, love getting to work on some DIY projects. Currently (and I just posted about it) I’m saving up to upgrade our rental apartment, most specifically the bathroom. I just love new projects and creating a cozy home in our apartment while we’re here. Another goal of mine this summer is to read through the whole Harry Potter series from start to finish. I’ve seen all the movies and only have read one of the books. I’m almost through the first one so this is one goal I think I can stick with!
ReplyDeleteThose are great goals, Kelly! I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, myself :)
DeletePracticing yoga everyday is a great goal. Even if you can only do 15 minutes home practice!
ReplyDeleteYes, super beneficial!
DeleteI too am trying to do yoga everyday. It's an amazing practice
ReplyDeleteFor real! I feel so much better after :)
DeleteLove love these goals - so inspiring! I am working on the yoga and self love thing too - so so important!
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing babe.

DeleteHappy summer solstice! I noticed the moon on my way home from meeting friends, it's gorgeous! I'm loving your goals for summer! I can't wait to be outside now that it's not freezing.
ReplyDeleteWasn't it amazing? I hope you enjoy the season, Leslie!

Oh, that's great! I'm really excited about it :)
DeleteLove the idea of a "Strawberry Moon" - how sweet!
ReplyDeleteAlso totally agree with the idea that anything that terrifies you and excites you at the same time is something worth pursuing. I've always loved the quote by Jack Canfield, "Everything you want is on the other side of fear."
Equally important is self-love :-) Keep up the fantastic work, girl!

Thank you for sharing that beautiful quote and stopping by the blog, Kathryn :)
DeleteYoga really helps to get your mind in shape and stop overthinking. Thanks for this post!
ReplyDeleteI love this list! Can I just take your goals? The only one of these I'm good at is taking my camera EVERYWHERE
ReplyDeletePart of what makes me so happy to share these goals is the hope that they will inspire others :) Thanks so much for stopping by, Ginger Marie!
DeleteOh my goodness, I've been so crazy busy I didn't even realize it's the Solstice today. How cool! Happy Solstice to you too! These goals are awesome, and you're going to have fun achieving them.
ReplyDeleteI love your goals! I definitely want to work on my blog as well as get better at self love. I'm currently on a six week solo Eurotrip, so if I can maintain consistency as I'm abroad, I will -really- be winning. Best of luck!

Oh, that's amazing! Best of luck to you, and how cool that you are travelling around Europe :) Get it, girl!
DeleteThese are great goals. I have the same goals for myself this summer. I am going to see if I can stick to them.
ReplyDeleteI hope we both can stick to them! Best of luck :)
DeleteI love this! Some of the things I do, like take my camera everywhere. Since I blog about restaurants and never know when I'll need to snap something, I totally encourage you to take your camera with you while you're out and about. But the one I love the most is the self love. Something I need to do too because it's really important to be kind to ourselves more often. This is a great post. I know you wrote it for yourself but it's a nice reminder for me too!
ReplyDeleteI did write it for myself, but I love that others can get inspired by it too. You taking your camera everywhere is so awesome! Thank you for the encouragement, Danielle :)
DeleteI'm trying to spend as much time as possible outside too! Being outside is the best! I can't leave the house without taking my camera with me - last weekend I forgot my memory card for it though, and that just ruined the whole day for me! It's crazy how much I love taking photos! So maybe I should have a goal to enjoy the summer more without the need to take photos of everything hah!

I've definitely been there, sometimes it's good to take in moments the old fashioned way :)
DeleteWhat is kombucha? Sounds so cool!
ReplyDeleteIt's fermented tea that has many health benefits!
DeleteI love these goals and I'm sending some positive vibes your way in completing them.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to steal your goal of doing yoga every day. I typically only do yoga once a week, and it feels great - so why not do it everyday.
I wish I was like you and could make myself spend time outdoors during the summer, but I definitely don't do well with heat.
Thanks, sweet lady! I'm glad you were inspired.
DeleteI don't think I'd do well in humid heat, I can only do it because of the Arizona "dry heat" ;)
I love the spend time outside as much as possible. I've been doing that and severely neglecting my blog, but I'm having so much fun!
ReplyDeleteThat's what counts most, though, right? :)
