Take a Hike: Wolf Creek Loop #384

June 14, 2016

Wolf Creek Loop is lush with pine and oak trees, as well as riparian vegetation once you get closer to the creek. I honestly wish we had packed a picnic because there were a few great spots to stop and enjoy. Although it was an easy hike, please be aware that there are many spots along the way with loose rocks. Also, side-note: Wolf Creek Trail 384 is open to horseback riders and mountain bicyclists, as well as hikers.

Lately, life has been pretty hectic for the hubby and I. With starting a new job (and blog), myself, and Tim getting a promotion at work and opening a new restaurant, we haven't had very much time for each other. Today was the first day in a while that we were able to achieve that.

One of our favorite things to do together is hiking and it had been so long since our last little venture, we decided over lunch that this is how we would spend the rest of our day date.

Although we didn't go during peak season, the Wolf Creek Loop trail is lush with pine and oak trees, as well as riparian vegetation. I honestly wish we had packed a picnic because there were a few great spots to stop and enjoy. We will most certainly be back, most likely once monsoon season rolls in.

The drive to the trail head wasn't bad and it was a breezy hike if you're planning to go on a whim, like we were. However, please be aware that there are many spots along the way with loose rocks, so it would be best to wear shoes with good traction (which I did not, whoops!).

Here are a few more shots from our little adventure and some more detailed information on Wolf Creek Loop Trail #384.

Difficulty level: Easy to moderate
Loop length: 5.5 mi. (We decided to only go as far as the falls, which is about 1 mi. round trip)
Open Season: Year-round
Usage: Hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, motorcycles, and motorized sports vehicles less than 50" in width
Parking: There is ample space for parking on the right side of the dirt road, across from where the trail head is located.
Directions: From downtown Prescott, take Senator Highway about 5 miles past Sky-Y YMCA camp. Not long after the road turns to dirt, take a right at the sign for Pine Summit Camp and Upper and Lower Wolf Creek. Go past Pine Summit Camp and Lower Wolf Creek Forest camp site. Immediately after driving around the first bend to reveal high, beautiful views of the mountains to the left, the trail will also be on the left. You will then see the trail head which reads, Wolf Creek Loop Trail 384.
Fees: No

What is one of your favorite pastimes? Do you have a hiking trail you love? I'd love to hear from you!

  9. Looks gorgeous and the perfect way to spend a day off. I'm not a huge hiker, but every now and then it is so refreshing and a great way to unwind. We just did a hike in Prescott two weekends ago around Watson Lake and it was gorgeous!

  10. What a pretty hike, Kasee! That's one of our favorite things to do when we get the time, too. So relaxing! We have one trail we really like to do that's great for taking the dogs. It's called Kwis Kwis trail and is just about 2.5 miles long. It's through the woods are part of Fort Clatsop, which is where the Lewis and Clark party wintered once they reached the coast.
